Hoola Safety Standards

Smiling baby playing with a stacking ring toy and plush bunny – Hoola Health sells only expert-vetted baby and kids products
What We Refuse to Sell Is How You Know What We Sell

Hoola Health is built around child health expertise. Every product on this store is screened for what’s in it, who it’s for, and what age it’s safe at before a parent ever sees it.

  • If our expert panel wouldn’t put it in a parent’s hands, it doesn’t go on the shelf.
  • We screen for banned ingredients, choking risk, age-fit, and honest labelling: all four, not just one.
  • Toys are chosen for a developmental milestone, not for how they look on a shelf.
The Hoola Standard

Every product passes four checks before it’s listed

Expert review, ingredient screening, physical safety and age-fit. The same four checks apply to every brand.

Expert review – every baby product is reviewed by child health, nutrition and dental experts before listing
Ingredient screening – full INCI list and nutrition panel checked against Hoola's banned ingredients list
Physical safety check – small parts, cords, magnets, batteries and certification marks checked for baby toys
Age-fit check – every listing shows a real age range set by Hoola's expert panel
Skincare

What We Ban in Baby Skincare, and Why

Babies have thinner skin and a higher surface-area-to-weight ratio than adults. Anything applied to the skin matters more, not less.

Banned baby skincare ingredients: prescription steroid creams, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, phthalates and undisclosed fragrance

Nutrition

What We Ban in Baby and Kid Food

The first 1,000 days set a child’s taste preferences. A sweetened first food doesn’t just add sugar today. It teaches a palate.

Choking-risk foods for babies and toddlers: whole nuts, hard candy, popcorn, whole grapes and honey under 12 months
Chemical preservatives banned in kids food: BHA, BHT, sodium benzoate, potassium bromate and azodicarbonamide
Trans fats, vanaspati, interesterified fats and palm shortening banned in children's snacks
Artificial sweeteners banned in children's products: aspartame, sucralose, acesulfame-K and saccharin
Evidence over fear

Two Things We Won’t Fear-Monger About

Fluoride toothpaste for kids – recommended from the first tooth in age-staged concentrations
Safe preservatives in baby cream – why some preservatives are necessary to prevent bacteria and mould
Toys & Play

Why Every Toy Here Is a Developmental Toy

A toy either builds a skill or it doesn’t. We only stock the ones that do.

Every toy on Hoola maps to a specific milestone a child is working on at that moment: visual tracking at three months, pincer grasp at nine, shape sorting at thirteen, early counting at two.

Our play range is staged level by level, so a parent buys what their child is developmentally ready for instead of what looks impressive in a box.

The play safety checks we run

Baby toy safety checklist: small-parts test, button batteries, loose magnets, cords, non-toxic materials, sound levels, water beads and BIS certification

What we don’t stock in play

  • Screen-based “learning” tablets for under-3s
  • Passive toys that entertain without engaging
  • Toys with unrealistic age labels
  • Anything whose main feature is noise

When We Get It Wrong, We Remove It.

We have delisted products from our own store after review, including well-known infant cereals whose sugar content didn’t meet the standard set out on this page.

We’d rather lose the sale than defend a listing we no longer believe in. If you think something on this store shouldn’t be here, write to us and we’ll review it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who decides what Hoola Health stocks?

Every product is reviewed by an expert panel covering child health, child nutrition, child dental care and product safety. Nothing is listed on commercial terms alone. The panel’s standards decide, and they are the standards set out on this page.

What ingredients does Hoola ban in baby products?

Prescription steroids sold over the counter, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, phthalates and undisclosed fragrance, camphor and menthol for infants, talc, harsh sulphates and MIT/MCI, triclosan, chemical UV filters in children’s sunscreen, added sugars and maltodextrin in under-2 foods, artificial colours and flavours, MSG and hidden glutamates, artificial sweeteners, trans fats, and bromate-type dough conditioners.

Are your toys safe for babies under three?

Every toy is checked against the small-parts cylinder standard, screened for loose magnets, secured button-battery compartments, cord length, lead-free paint and BPA-free plastics, and matched to a developmental age range set by our panel rather than by the manufacturer.

Do you sell fluoride-free toothpaste?

We stock age-appropriate fluoride toothpaste, because that is what global child dental guidance recommends. Our range is staged by concentration and by whether your child can spit yet.

Do you sell baby walkers?

No. Walkers carry a well-documented head-injury risk and offer no developmental benefit. We stock climbing frames, Pikler triangles and activity setups that build gross motor skills safely instead.

How do I know which product suits my child’s age?

Every listing carries an age range assigned by our expert panel, plus the situation it’s meant for: starting solids, eczema-prone skin, teething, and so on. If you’re unsure, ask us before you buy.

Are your products BIS certified and FSSAI compliant?

Toys we stock carry BIS certification under IS 9873, food products are FSSAI licensed, and car seats carry a recognised crash-test certification. We check these before listing.

Expert-vetted. Chosen for your child’s age.

Nothing we wouldn’t give our own.
