Weak cheek muscles, open-mouth resting posture, and poor lip seal can contribute to speech articulation difficulties, open-mouth breathing, and swallowing delays. Abley's Twisty Loop Straws Set is an engaging oral-motor feeding therapy tool engineered to increase suction resistance, build lip seal strength, and correct tongue posture through daily drinking play.
✨ Key Benefits & Highlights:
- Increased Suction Resistance for Oral Tone: The looped, spiral architecture increases the vacuum pressure required to draw liquids, strengthening the buccinator (cheek), orbicularis oris (lip), and velopharyngeal muscles.
- Promotes Correct Tongue Retraction: Drinking through narrow spiral straws forces the tongue into a retracted position within the mouth, preventing anterior tongue thrust during speech and swallowing.
- Graded Viscosity Therapy: Can be used with liquids of varying thicknesses (water, fruit smoothies, yogurt, or purees) to progressively build oral-motor endurance.
- Motivating & Fun Hydration: Vibrant crazy-loop designs make daily hydration and therapeutic drinking exercises playful and rewarding for picky or reluctant children.
- Reusable & Safe: Made from durable, food-grade BPA-free polypropylene; includes a specialized long cleaning brush for easy sanitization.
How It Works (Therapeutic Mechanism):
Drawing liquid through a looping pathway creates fluid resistance that demands coordinated lip closure, cheek tension, and soft palate elevation. This exercises the neuromuscular control of the cranial nerves involved in swallowing (cranial nerves VII, IX, and XII), strengthening oral mechanics essential for speech articulation.
Satisfies sensory seeking needs, improves focus and coregulation, and supports pediatric therapy goals. Therapist-Approved Construction; Ergonomic & Tactile Comfort; Built for Long-Lasting Therapy Use.
